The Lifted Brow; The Rule of the Father

I wrote a personal essay for The Lifted Brow online; The Rule of the Father

The Rule of the Father is a reflection on patriarchy, mental health, and becoming a parent. The piece is the result of nine months of writing and editing (not to mention 20 months of not sleeping).

This essay is confessional, and by far the rawest thing I’ve ever worked on. I don’t think it is a pleasant read. I was anxious about its publication, but having spoken to a few parents, particularly fathers, I am becoming aware that it can be a common experience and the essay may be helpful.

The Lifted Brow has been formative on my writing and it’s an honour to have a piece there.
